Sorry for lack of updates
Hi all,
Sorry for the lack of updates....I've been a bit busy this last week. I hope to get a new blog up soon...maybe this coming weekend if I have time.
Things are getting a bit easier for me but ordering food is still a bit of a challenge. Anyways, I need to go to sleep but I'll try to give more details on my adventures soon.

Hi! Nothing(or Jeff?)!
Are you enjoying China? My new teacher had lived in China for a year and he teached English to Chinese students in the uni. Today, he told us an interesting story that when he was teaching in the class, one student spat on the classroom. He was surprised at the thing but he said it is common in China to spit on the ground even if classroom. When I heard that, I was suprised at the story. That's very rude in Japan. It's a really culture difference, isn't it? Do you see people often spit on the ground?

chocobo, I never notice the sandstorms...it just feels like wind to me....howevever, I did notice sand in my room a few days ago...all over my laptop! And I forgot to close my laptop.
As for mask...haven't bought one yet but I think I would really benefit from having one. When I walk to school, I really have a hard time since there's soo much pollution in the air....bleh...

Hi Erika....yes just call me Jeff...I have finally revealed myself ;-) Yes, people spit everywhere here...it's quite gross....when I walk to school, I try to avoid the spit but it gets tiresome. After awhile, it's sometimes better not to look. Supposedly Beijing has improved though. I remember when I was travelling in China 4 years ago, people were spitting IN the train....it was soooo disgusting. I kind of understand though...the pollution is very hard to take..it makes you want to cough or spit.

Oh, really!? Chinese people spit even if on the train!? so trains are dirty, isn't it? I can't understand... But this is just a cultural difference. Do you feel other cultural differences between China and Canada?

Well I haven't been on the train yet this year so I'm not sure if it has improved...my guess is no. I know the government is trying to discourage spitting in Beijing but I don't see any success. It's everywhere. One time I even jumped because I thought a lady was going to hit me with one! She looked at me funny when I turned around ;-)
Other differences? Hmm...I would say traffic is a bit crazy here. Although Beijing is much better than other parts of the country, it's still chaotic to me. The bus drivers drive like they are in racing cars. If a car is in the way, the drivers will go into the opposite lane even when cars are coming! Pretty scary...you just have to get used to it.
One final thing is that in the grocery store, there are WAY too many workers in there. For example, there are 4 people in the bread section alone just waiting for you to ask them a question. Most of the time, they are just standing there. I'm not used to it since in Canada, you hardly find anyone there to help. You may see someone putting the new groceries on the shelves but that's it. I'm used to being left alone when I shop so it's a bit irritating when people keep coming up to you and telling you how good the bread is ;-)

Wow, that's interesting! We're same Asian but everything is different.
I see Chinese traffic is terrible. Maybe there are so many people in China so it can't be helped.
When I got on the bus in NZ, I also felt same feeling that bus drivers are very danger. I asked the local person about that. He said that because most of them are from other countries like India or China(Asian country) and the salary is very very low so local people don't do the job. I felt the difference between rich people and poor people.
Um, there is a large population in China so people can't get good jobs? It's no meaning people are just standing... Besides, we can buy bread without their recommendation. Are there enough jobs which all of Chinese can get?

hello,
i recently noticed that a new blog called "The Commie Canadian" has appeared on my list of blogs, much to my bewilderment. You're one of the listed members of this blog...perhaps you could explain the mix-up? I have no idea why I could have been included in that blog (which, incidentally, does not exist anymore).
thank you.
